Links To Learning

Jumpstart is an alternate learning programme funded as a Links to Learning Project by the DEC which is focussed on project based learning in vocational subjects. These are mainly tradeskill industries and subjects which have training plans based both at school and in industry. Each project is based on 2 days per week for 15 weeks or equivalent. For the first 10 weeks, students will participate in the hands on activities in their particular subject areas. Our goal is that all students achieve a Certificate 1 qualification or higher after completion of the first part of the project. After the training component, Jumpstart staff will facilitate group and individual workshops to develop life and employment skills.

This includes:
  • Communication
  • Team work
  • Self Confidence
  • Setting education, training and career goals
  • Developing work skills

Jumpstart staff will work with participants to develop a transition plan which will support each young person to get back on track at school or successfully transition into the work force. With the help of the Department of Education and Communities in the Northern Sydney Region, we are able to determine the styles of courses we plan to run and the best students for those courses. The Jumpstart! project is delivered off school grounds at “Granmas Refuge”, local Crown Land based at Ingleside. This historic site was the home to a youth refuge in the early 80’s and has since served as a training facility for other local community groups. Students will be required to make their own way to and from the site. Each day starts at 9:30am and concludes at 2:30pm. Students are required to bring their own lunch each day but with a great kitchen, lunchroom, recreation room and lots of outdoor space.... Granmas will become their second home!
